The Behavioral Care Center (BCC) is a recently opened state licensed adult supportive residential facility which is designed to provide gender responsive behavioral care services and treatment to residents in a short-term residential rather than correctional setting. The goal of this program is to reduce recidivism and increase public safety by working to treat mental illness and decriminalize the mentally ill. Although the BCC only has a 60-bed capacity, it is estimated that at maximum capacity the facility could impact 1,500-2,000 individuals each year. Criteria for referral to the BCC includes: 1) mental health or substance use diagnosis; 2) misdemeanor charges; and 3) acuity level low enough to actively participate in treatment program
